Looking Up

DSC_1014SplitS2

We kept to the path,
Straight as a knife;
Continuing on,
Finally arrived.
But looking back now,
On the trail we tread;
It wasn’t the goal,
Pushing us ahead.
I see now what inspired me,
What helped me every step;
The gentle voice, the strong arms,
Of a friend helping me up.
When I stumbled,
Every time I tripped;
They held my hand,
A loving, firm grip.
When I became discouraged,
The climb too hard;
They were there to encourage,
“Look up! Take heart!”
Looking up, all I saw,
Was the long, long path;
My friend smiled, shook their head,
“Look higher than that!”
So I moved my gaze upwards,
Up into the sky;
What wonders I beheld,
Oh how beautiful the sight!
I forgot all my worries,
My struggles and my falls;
God had given me new hope,
New energy He installed.
The sky met the ground,
At the horizon they said hello;
I look at that horizon now,
Wherever I go.
On that path so difficult,
With potholes, rocks, and sand;
God taught me something important,
To “Look up”, “Look higher”, by the voice of a friend.

Many days ago, I looked in the distance.
And saw a great mountain, and promised to climb it.
Across deserts and hills, streams and mountains;
‘Til I reached that peak, of so great a foundation.
The trials and hardship, of every step foward,
Great sorrow and anguish, when I backslid down further.
Running, walking, hiking, and climbing;
On all fours, I continued crawling.
Onward I pushed, for I knew the reward;
Of enduring to the end, the end of this world.
Life is an adventure, unknown and exciting;
Every day a surprise, God’s will He’s unveiling.
I struggled and pushed, past sweat and blood;
Every inch of pain, every minute so far.
I would not have made it far, without the Lord’s hand;
He gave a Comforter, and he gave me some friends.
Friends so faithful, loving and kind;
My fellow comrades, ’til the day that I die!
We made it at last, to the top of the peak;
overlooking the sands, some hills, and some streams.
In glory we meet our loving Creator;
Who died, and rose, and became our dear Savior.
This dream I do have, is in the near future;
It feels so real at the end of this adventure.
I look all around, at my friends and family;
And think of the adventure, that is only just beginning…

As I ride the sky through the water so deep,
Past mountains, clouds, and submarines;
I think of the friends who help me to fly,
Through the storms, wakes, and rapids of life.
I fly through the air without a care,
My wings, the oars, help me to soar;
Not on my own, lest I should fall,
Together, we row and paddle ’til dawn.
To the horizon we travel, so far,
Not knowing the way, “Maps are too hard”;
Round bends and streams and islands we go,
Through tunnels and portals we continue to row!
We were almost there, or so it would seem,
‘Til the Whoshliverbeliner started to scream…
Oh how it thundered, so deep and loud;
With ripples in the sky, it shook every mount.
We barely survived, the craft started to sink!
“Full power ahead!” The captain did speak;
So we pushed through that gargantuous storm,
Made it across, and shortly fled home.
Now I sit here, thinking back on the days,
Of friends, adventures, and many tall tales;
The sun starts to set, dusk draws near;
Sleep starts to take me, another quest for me there…
